1. What is user research?​

User research is the process of gathering qualitative and quantitative data about the needs, motivations,
expectations and constraints of your audience, for digital solutions that serve, satisfy and delight.

User research is a key element of an insight-led design process, providing the objective evidenceneeded to make informed design decisions upfront.

For best results, user research activities should also be conducted regularly throughout the project lifecycle – including through to launch and beyond – to support iterative development and continuous improvement activities.

2. Importance​

Most people don’t know what they want when it comes to experiencing an application or platform,
much less how to verbalize it. They just know what they’ve seen on the sites they use most often.

The purpose of user research is to provide user experience insight before you invest in development—through personas, customer journey mapping, rapid prototyping, and usability testing
— so you can understand your customers’ preferences, priorities, and problems and design an experience just for them.
